Women’s engagement in the democratic processes, a path to peace and stability in DR Congo

In DR Congo, most women are not informed nor educated about their human rights and civic responsibilities, which makes it difficult for them to fully participate in public or family decision-making. This is often in remote areas where we run our projects. For example, during the election period, many women are not well informed about the process and their civic role which includes getting a voter registration to fully participate in the election. On another level, women do not know their rights under the new Congolese family Code revised in 2016. Under this code, they allowed to work without the permission of their husbands. This includes occupying a public office. This is a progress towards gender equity. We run workshops with experts in the field to educate the women about these positive changes and encourage the leaders to rise and have a voice for their communities.
